From 31 December 2011 responsibility for building regulations in Wales has been transferred to the Welsh Government. The Building Regulations were previously the responsibility of the UK Government.
The Welsh Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, John Griffiths, has said that his government will aim to use the new powers to ensure sustainable and environmentally friendly construction in Wales.
Documents and guidance that were in force up to 31 December, and which had previously applied to England and Wales, will continue to apply in Wales.
This includes:
– Building Regulations;
– the approved documents;
– guidance published by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG); and
– approvals under competent persons provisions.
However, from 01 January 2012, any revisions to Building Regulations and related procedures and guidance issued by DCLG will apply to England only.
