Upkeep Training Courses and Seminars

Upkeep provides training courses on all aspects of building care: inspection, repairs, maintenance and improvement. Our training courses cover how buildings are constructed, how buildings work, key components, common defects and how to put them right. We look at best practice in building construction, maintenance and refurbishment.

What is special about our training courses?

We are an independent educational charity. Our aim is to help people understand how buildings work and how to maintain and improve them. We put a strong emphasis on practical training, with a variety of learning styles and lots of opportunities for informal learning.

The Upkeep Exhibition

Many of our courses use the Upkeep Exhibition as a unique teaching resource. Participants on Upkeep courses use the Exhibition's full-size models of buildings to see how buildings are constructed. Participants also have the opportunity to handle common building components to understand how they function.

Experience

We have well over ten years' experience of delivering training for people working with or interested in buildings and repairs and maintenance. We have trained thousands of staff from organisations of all types and all sizes.

People who come on our training courses include staff from housing associations, local authorities, almo's, property management organisations, estate agents, contractors and charities.

Qualifications

Upkeep and the City and Guilds offer a unique qualification for people working in repairs and maintenance. The Certificate in Diagnosing Defects and Ordering Repairs is specifically designed for non-technical staff working in housing or property management.

It is also suitable for people who are working for contractors or who are responsible for looking after buildings for their organisation. Find out more about the Certificate

Training courses on Dealing with Condensation and Damp

Complaints about damp and condensation are regular problems for landlords. Tenants may be right to be concerned: the World Health Organisation (WHO) says dampness & mould increase risk of respiratory problems by 75%.

Last year the WHO published its first guidelines on indoor air quality, following a two-year review by 36 leading experts . The authors say there is sufficient evidence to show an association between indoor dampness-related factors and a wide range of respiratory health effects.

Upkeep offers two practical one-day courses about condensation and damp:

1. Condensation, Damp and Decay is for non-technical staff. Find out more

2. Condensation and Damp in Buildings (Advanced Course) is a course for technical staff. Find out more here
