Keeping Buildings Dry

This display graphicallly shows you the importance of good worksmanship, repair and maintenance of the external areas of a buildings.

The display is in the form of the rear elevation of two terraced properties. It illustrates good and bad practice in relation to:

• damp proof courses

• air bricks

• cast-iron guttering and down-pipes

• the installation of waste pipes

• maintenance of external woodwork

• care of steel windows

• external render and surface coatings

Visitors can compare and contrast the effect of neglect vs. regular maintenance.
